Representing Cretex Medical |QTS at this event were Product Development Engineering Manager, Rona, and Product Development Engineer II, Anna.
From May 13–15, two members of our Cretex Medical | QTS team — Rona, Product Development Engineering Manager, and Anna, Product Development Engineer II — attended the[PACK]out 2025 in Coronado Bay, California. This event brought together thought leaders in medical device packaging to share best practices, new technologies, and emerging trends that are shaping the future of MedTech packaging.
One of the most compelling themes of the event was the importance of cultivating a data-driven mindset to enhance decision-making. Keynote speaker Jeffrey Ma, a former member of the MIT Blackjack team, illustrated how leveraging data can help reduce bias, drive innovation, and lead to smarter strategies across all areas of the business.
Rona and Anna also attended breakout sessions and panel discussions on timely topics such as:
- Packaging Engineering – Preparing the Next Generation: A panel featuring both seasoned and early-career professionals emphasized the need to train and support new packaging engineers, especially as hybrid work environments and generational differences reshape how teams operate.
- Managing Up: This interactive session explored effective strategies for building strong relationships across all levels of an organization. Group discussions offered opportunities to reflect on personal experiences and apply best practices for communication, collaboration, and accountability.
- Considerations for In-Line Sterilization: With its potential to streamline processes and reduce material usage, in-line sterilization is gaining traction. Insights from this session aligned well with the QTS commitment to efficient and effective sterilization support.
- Rethinking Sustainable Packaging in MedTech: A critical look at how sustainable design can align with the regulatory, functional, and logistical requirements of medical device packaging. Attendees learned about right-sizing packaging, using recycled and renewable materials, and designing for end-of-life considerations.
A particularly relevant case study highlighted the use of sterile tube packaging. The system uses a gasket, tube body, and closure cap to create a hermetic seal without the need for sealing equipment. The simple go/no-go gauge validation makes it an efficient and robust solution for certain applications.
Anna and Rona also explored the role of simulation in sterile packaging design, noting new methods for assessing package integrity and performance virtually — tools that could enhance QTS’s already strong development capabilities.
Participating in the[PACK]out 2025 reaffirmed our team's commitment to staying ahead of industry trends and continuously enhancing our product development and packaging strategies. We’re proud to support team members like Rona and Anna as they bring fresh insights back to QTS, helping us deliver smarter solutions and stronger results for our customers.
