Cretex Medical recently had the opportunity to attend and sponsor the MPO MedTech Forum 2025, hosted at the Costa Rica Conference Center this April. As Costa Rica’s largest export, the medical device industry is a driving force behind the country’s economy, and a growing focus area for Cretex Medical as we look to expand our presence in Latin America.

Capturing a portion of this rapidly growing market is not only an exciting opportunity but a key piece of our long-term growth strategy. Building strong relationships with potential customers and suppliers in Costa Rica is especially important as we prepare to launch production at our new facility later this year.

Representing Cretex Medical at the event were Jeremy Glynn, Julio Lizano, and Liza Gutierrez — all General Managers — as well as Adam Snajdar, Engineering Manager, Interventional. The team attended multiple speaker sessions and panel discussions and took full advantage of the opportunity to network with fellow attendees across the medical device ecosystem.

Key Takeaways from the Forum

  • Market Trends: In the “State of the Industry” presentation, the global MedTech market was estimated at $590 billion, with projections to reach $625 billion by the end of 2025. Despite widespread inflation, OEMs have maintained their cost of goods sold (COGS) by implementing internal cost-saving measures and adjusting customer pricing. A downward trend in Days Inventory Outstanding (DIO) suggests that medical device companies are returning to more balanced inventory levels after periods of overstocking.
  • Facility Expansion Insights: The panel "Lessons Learned: Establishing a Facility in Costa Rica" emphasized the country's skilled workforce, robust supplier ecosystem, and collaborative government support as key advantages. Panelists recommended starting with flexible facility layouts and forming partnerships with local technical schools and universities to develop a strong talent pipeline.
  • Tariff Preparedness: Potential changes in tariff policies were also addressed. While Costa Rican officials are actively negotiating to mitigate these effects, companies are encouraged to develop strategies that ensure adaptability in the face of supply chain or pricing disruptions.

Throughout the conference, the Cretex Medical team connected with a wide range of organizations—from OEMs and contract manufacturers to suppliers with capabilities in extrusion, wire drawing, metal forming, coatings, assembly, sterilization, tooling, and more.

Looking Ahead

Our participation in this year’s MPO MedTech Forum reinforced our confidence in Costa Rica as a strategic location for medical device manufacturing. With a strong and growing ecosystem, Cretex Medical is well-positioned to contribute to and benefit from the region’s ongoing success. We look forward to continuing to build meaningful partnerships and launching operations in Costa Rica later this year.
