Cretex Medical | rms recently volunteered at The Dwelling Place, a local organization offering safe transitional housing and supportive services for women in children escaping domestic abuse.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month - a time to shine a light on the struggles faced by survivors of domestic violence and to show support through active involvement. At Cretex Medical | rms, we value the importance of contributing to our community and supporting meaningful causes. This month, rms employees volunteered at The Dwelling Place, a local organization offering safe transitional housing and supportive services for women and children escaping domestic abuse.
To maximize our impact, rms organized two volunteer shifts, each dedicated to improving The Dwelling Place’s facilities for its residents. The first group of volunteers tackled outdoor work, including pulling weeds, cleaning window wells, and performing interior cleaning to create a warm and welcoming environment. A second group followed with tasks focused on reorganizing the property’s storage areas. This team optimized garage space to prepare for winter, allowing for bicycle storage and other seasonal items. They also completed window well cleaning at five properties and even added finishing touches to the exterior of one of the homes with fresh paint. Each of these efforts reflects rms's commitment to giving back and supporting survivors’ journeys toward safety and stability.
The Mission Behind The Dwelling Place
Founded in 1998 by Diane Stores, The Dwelling Place began as a single-family home on St. Paul’s east side and has since grown into an organization with eight family residences. Diane’s own experience with domestic violence motivated her to create a place where women and children could find safety, hope, and healing - a vision she has continued to expand over the years. Today, The Dwelling Place has the capacity to support up to 57 women and children at any given time, providing not only a safe place to stay but also the resources to help residents rebuild their lives.
